Hydro power!

Thinking about hydro power,we all think about large dams , holding tons and tons of water and when the water is released, electricity is been produced.

Huge power generators are placed inside the dams, and the water is lead through gigantic pipes to metal turbines. The water let the steel turbine blades rotate, and these turbines, connected with a high-speed shaft to power generators are producing electricity..

Ind fact, the power of water has been used for over thousands of years. In Imperial Rome, aswel as among other ancient people, water were used to powered mills produced flour from grain, and were also used for sawing timber and stone.

In the 20th century, countries have understand the importants of producing energy through hydropower. It was a risky undertaking, because engineering was not was it is nowadays but still in an first (try-out) stadium. Mistakes has been made, but from those mistakes they've learned, and improved the building of the dams.

Simply explained it comes to this.

Nowadays countries around the world have been building dams and using the power of water to produce electricity for almost halve a century. But it's in the last decade, this by the first signs of global warming and climate change, that governments starts to be aware of the importances of green energy sources, to reduce the amount of co2 emissions. So,they started to developing new areas for producing hydroelectric .

At the moment, with a capacity of 19 % of the produced electricity world wide, hydro energy is by far the largest renewable energy resource.

Which countries can produce hydro power?

Canada is the largest producer of hydro power, followed by the US and Brazil. Then there are China, India. But in the future, there will be more countries that can developing their hydro electricity, and are only in a begin stadium of producing green energy.

Hydroelectric power are also produced in Australia In the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme in south eastern Australia which was designed and built between 1949 and 1974.

China has The world's largest hydropower: It's the Three Gorges Dam on the third longest river in the world, the Yangtze River.

The cons and pros for hydro energy

The biggest contra

The biggest issue against building the dams for producing hydroelectricity, is the fact that in many cases , many people ( sometimes a few millions as in China)has to leave their homes and land to go live elsewhere. Not only people has to move, animals too have to moved from their territory to other dry land. Thats a lot of work.

The biggest advantage:

Hydroelectric power can be far less expensive than electricity generated from fossil fuels or nuclear energy.

Also, it's green energy. In contrast to burning fossil fuels, this renewable energy source has essentially no carbon dioxide or other harmful emissions, and is not a significant contributor to global warming through CO2.
